Jaringan Masyarakat Transformatif (JARimata) dengan dukungan the International Republican Institute (IRI) berencana untuk mempertemukan anggota DPRD terpilih dengan para pemangku kepentingan di Jatim pada awal Agustus 2009. Demi memampukan kedua belah pihak untuk bekerjasama merumuskan inisiatif kebijakan publik, JARimata menyelenggarakan lokakarya yang relevan bagi kedua belah pihak.

Senang sekali bisa bertemu dan belajar bersama kawan-kawan nelayan Puger, UKM seluruh Jawa Timur, aktivis perempuan desa, pengamat dan lain-lain.

Program selanjutnya adalah Forum Dengar Pendapat dan Lokakarya Anggota Dewan. Masih belum diputuskan apakah akan terpisah atau digabung demi budget-wise.

Institution Profile

A. General Description

JARimata was founded in Surabaya, Indonesia, 2008, as an active expression of deep concerns among a group of young academicians at Petra Christian University on the slow and narrow-spread transformation of East Java society. Starting with Quadrant (2007) whose core service was on consultation for East Java elites, JARimata tries to expand its concerns toward the elite and public domains by means of empowerment and mediation. Empowerment is mainly carried out through self-development and professional development programs. Mediation is manifested by implementing an active, intensive, and continuous assistance. With its campus background, JARimata has in its programs a steady supply of human resources both in numbers and qualifications.

B. Vision

To be one of the most prominent non-formal driving forces of East Java transformation.

C. Mission

1. To provide effective, efficient, and continuous empowerment programs for elites as
well as public in East Java.
2. To implement an active mediation between leadership and public aspiration in East
Java with a clear tendency toward reason and justice.
3. To develop a strong and wide network among public officers and stakeholders

D. Objectives

1. To provide up-to-date, appropriate, cumulative, and continuous workshops and
inseminations for public officers and society.
2. To provide intensive, continuous, problem-solving oriented assistance for public
officers and society.
3. To monitor and to provide continuing education to the participants who volunteer
to be a part of the JaRimata network.

E. Expertise

1. Organizational Development Strategy, including strategic planning, human-resources capacity building, organizational capacity building, organizational performance assessment, etc.
2. Communication Strategy, including communication design, public presentation, campaign strategy, working with media, communication performance asssesment, etc.

F. Organizational Structure

JARimata is led by a Director that is supported by two coordinators such as Program Coordinator and Capacity Building Coordinator. Program Coordinator is responsible for the empowerment and mediation programs being offered to external institutions and individuals. Capacity Building Coordinator assists the Director in administrative matters and internal development of the institution. The holders of the three functions constitute the permanent members of JARimata. JARimata is also supported by a number of facilitators in accordance with the programs’ needs.

Director

Ronny H. Mustamu
Obtained his bachelor degree from Airlangga University, Surabaya, and master degree from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila. Once led the evening daily Surabaya Post as Editor in Chief/Managing Director and the Faculty of Communication Science, Petra Christian University as Dean. Was a member of Indonesia-Sampoerna Best Lecturer of 2007 and a Visiting Faculty at University of Florida (2008). Is a Fellow of LEAD Internasional, London, member of Commission on Education and Communication IUCN, Gland, Switzerland, and member Scientists Without Border, New York.

Program Coordinator

Dwi Setiawan
Graduated from the English Department, Petra Christian University, Surabaya in 2002 and obtained his Master of Arts from Assumption University of Thailand in 2004. Was an I-Zone Adviser at the British Council of Thailand in 2003-2004. Participated in a professional training at the Australian College of English, Sydney, in 2005. Is currently teaching and working as Secretary of Department at the English Department, Petra Christian University, Surabaya.

Capacity Building Coordinator

Gatut Priyowidodo
Obtained his bachelor degree in Political Science from Hasanuddin University, Makassar, in 1992, and master degree in Social Science from Airlangga University, Surabaya, in 1999. Was a Research Fellow at SSRC Universitas Indonesia (2005) and a researcher on the governance sector at Balitbangda Prov. Sumbar (2004-2006). Is currently doing his Ph.D in Communication at the College of Art and Science, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and working as Head of Center of Communication Studies, Petra Christian University.
